Pregnancy and Genital Herpes |
|
|
Women who are in the final stages of
pregnancy and have acquired herpes virus for the first time are at a risk of passing the infection to
the new born baby. The chances of passing the infection increase if the mother has
symptoms of herpes in the birth canal. Because herpes in babies is very
severe obstetricians often advice a caesarean section to avoid transmission.
