Once you get infected with herpes virus it will remain in your body for the entire life. But this doesn't means that you can't have sex. You can have sex but it should be taboo while you are having symptoms. Avoid any type of sexual contact if you have any blisters (oral or genital) or other symptoms. Even if herpes blisters are not present, one could still be contagious on account of asymptomatic viral shedding. Use condom for extra protection when you are asymptomatic.
